Option One: Marco Polo
It's best to have between 5 and 12 people for this one, and the time after
midnight. It works just like regular marco polo, except that one can restrict
the game, to say the grocery section, crafts, ect. Extra points if one can get
the store personell to join in.
Option Two: Walking Freeze-Tag
Here's one to do during the day. You'll need between 5 and 10 people for this
one. It's just like regular freeze-tag: if a person is tagged, they are frozen
until somebody else tags them and un-freezes them. The only difference is that
one can't run. That's right: no breaking stride or anything. The penalty for
running is to go to the crafts section and dress up in the fabrics and plastic
flowers for an indefinate amount of time, at the discretion of the players.
Option Three: Spin the Off-Brand
This is a good one for some of the more close-knit, hormone-crazed groups. Find
the craziest off-brand available (I've seen such classics as "Crispy Rice,"
which charged five cents more than the comparable "Crisp Rice", both in
ugly yellow canisters), and use it inplace of the proverbial bottle. Go find a
deserted section of the store (housewares is a good bet), and have at it. Best
for times after midnight and before dawn. At dawn the old ladies who come to
walk the length of the store arrive, and that just spoils the atmosphere.
Option Four: The Ultimate Scavenger Hunt
Good for larger groups. Form teams, and look for some receits that have been
carelessly dropped around the doors. After finding a goodly number (around 4 or
5 for each team), go off to find the items listed, and their complete opposites.
I. E. anything that starts a fire is the opposite of most liquids, bedsheets are
the opposite of shoes (one is laying down, the other is standing). Be creative,
and be ready to defend your choices. Bring the items back to a designated area
after a set amount of time. No asking the help for help-- if one is caught they
have to buy what's one of the receits, at the other team's discretion.
Option Five: The Immortals
Good for smaller groups of people, generally after midnight. As one walks in,
pick out a few people to find later on in the store. Walk by them a few times.
If they give strange looks, smile very largely at them. If they look at one
strangely again, talk (softly) about how self-conscious the mortals are these
days to one's partener, then move on. Don't bug the person again, however.
Don't want them to think you're insane or anything.
Do YOU have any fun ideas? Just send them along to
me, and I'll see what I
can do about adding them.
